History About the Company

Paul Asemah-blay Ekpale grew up in Ghana, Africa. He grew up with a loving mother and two older sisters who worked hard, but did not always have much. Paul recalls that after a few days of not eating, he would scavenge food from the local food vendors. In 2004, the President & Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, dedicated the Accra, Ghana Temple. The President of the church at the time was President Gordon B. Hinckley. He selected Paul, out of thousands of others, to help set the cornerstone of the temple. This event was the start of many miracles that have led to this organization. 1-in-334 members who choose to serve a mission, out of Ghana, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, are called to America. That is a 0.3% chance. At the age of eighteen, Paul was called to serve a mission in America located at Las Vegas, Nevada.

Keyan Bird grew up in Rigby, Idaho (USA). His parents knew the importance of hard work and serving others around them. With this example, Keyan gained a great desire to also serve others, and to work hard for what he had. When Keyan was just eleven-years old, his family made the decision to move to Alaska, USA. Keyan is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As a child, he set a goal for himself to become a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Later, Keyan was also called to serve as a missionary located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

How did They Meet?

Keyan and Paul were service companions for only a six-week time period. During those six weeks, Paul and Keyan shared their lives with each other and became like brothers. A year later, Paul and Keyan became service companions for a second time. It is uncommon become service missionaries with the same individuals more than once in a mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When they were reunited, they knew that someday, they would be able to do something great together. Paul began emailing Keyan's Father, Lewis. They emailed everyday for the rest of his mission. In November 2016, Paul returned home to Ghana from Las Vegas, Nevada. On his way home, Paul called Lewis to talk about what they could do to make a change. It is safe to say, that day, Ghana Make a Change began.

Initial Investor

Lewis Bird (listed below among the staff) invested an initial/continued donation that has roughly equaled $30,000. This has been a great support to Ghana Make a Change and was the funding needed to get things started as a company. As well as being able to have enough funding to continue its operations until further donations had been reached to help it become more self sustaining. Individuals like himself are the reason why this company is the way that it is today and we are grateful for generous individuals like himself.
